Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has been appointed as the chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry officials said.
As reported, Kher replaces Gajendra Chauhan, who had a controversial tenure as head of the Pune-based institute. His term had ended in March. A notification regarding Kher’s appointment has been issued, officials told PTI.
On becoming the chairman of FTII, Anupam Kher through his Twitter handle said:
Here’s how twitter reacted:
Congratulations my dear @AnupamPkher for becoming FTII Chairman ! Know you will do a great job !
Congratulations Shri @AnupamPkher ji, for being appointed as @FTIIOfficialchairman.
Congratulations @AnupamPkher with your keen artistic eye and experience one can only see greater heights ahead.
Talking about FTII and former chairman Gajendra Chauhan, Anupam had earlier said, “I personally feel that FTII represents a certain art form. It does certainly need a person having a great body of work which means he is supposed to know the world of cinema. He is supposed to know the present state of cinema like editing. But certainly, FTII needs somebody who is much more qualified than whatever Ganjendra ji’s qualifications are coming across. I certainly do not think Gajendra ji is qualified as a producer, director or actor,” as reported by Indian Express.
