Adding another feather in its cap, the International Centre (formerly international students centre) at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has received the prestigious ISO 9001-2008 certification. Dr Vijay Khare, IC director, said the certification is an important milestone in proving not only the efficiency of the administrative processes established at the centre, but also its commitment to a time-bound resolution to students’ needs.
The International Centre deals with admissions of foreign students; hosting foreign delegates and joint collaborations; interaction with government officials; acts as co-ordinator hosting international students from several countries and so on.
“The centre has gained a reputation for teaching and learning methodologies as well as precision in procedures while evaluation of documents and other records. Keeping this in mind, the International Centre got the ISO tag for a period of 3 years,” said Khare.
He added that the centre has been working on adopting various changes for six months since applying for the certification. For instance, adopting a time-bound mechanism for various student-related issues. “Suppose if a student needs a bonafide certificate, then we can provide it within six days. It’s a policy that we have set in place for each type of work, emphasising on what is the maximum amount of time within which a work has to get completed, if it is done or not. Unlike earlier system where an application would come and then there was no fixed procedure over time-bound resolution, we have changed certain things. Similarly, processes are now in place for admission, accommodation, finance, English language courses and so on. All this helped us in getting the certification and eventually it will help students too as effective process means faster delivery of services to them,” added Khare.
