The Vivo X20 Plus UD, one of the most awaited smartphones of 2018, was recently spotted on certification website TENAA. Within a few days of the TENAA listing, the phone’s price and expected launch date have been allegedly leaked on Twitter. The Vivo X20 Plus UD with an under display fingerprint sensor is expected to arrive on January 25 for a price of CNY 3,998 (roughly Rs. 39,900). Gadgets 360 had learnt at CES 2018 that it was not certain whether the upcoming phone would bear the X20 Plus branding.
Contributor at Slashleaks, Zyad Atef took to Twitter to suggest that the Vivo X20 Plus UD will be launched on January 25. Notably, the under display fingerprint sensing technology was showcased on the Vivo X20 Plus at CES 2018. This smartphone is a result of Vivo’s partnership with component maker Synaptics in December 2017. According to a TENAA listing, the smartphone is expected to arrive in Black Gold, Champagne Gold, and Matte Black colour variants.
A presentation given at CES explains that the fingerprint sensor sits between the glass protector and OLED panel on the X20 Plus UD. The under display technology comes at a time when a rising number of smartphones with edge-to-edge displays are flooding the market. Synaptics had claimed earlier that 70 million units of their under display fingerprint sensors will be made available in 2018.
The Vivo X20 Plus UD is expected to sport similar hardware design and specifications as the previously launched Vivo X20 Plus. Just to recap, the Vivo X20 Plus features a 6.43-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) Super AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage. The storage is expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB).
