Apps with no background in social media have started incorporating some mode of communication to keep users hooked up longer, and share more with friends. New Delhi: Most smartphone users rely on messengers WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger or social media apps such or Twitter or LinkedIn to chat, share photos, or even location with friends and family members. Interestingly, these features are no longer limited to social media apps. Apps with no background in social media have started incorporating some mode of communication to keep users hooked up longer, and share more with friends. Here are some of the apps with built-in social media tools.

Paytm

Popular mobile payment app Paytm now allows users to chat with friends who are also using the Paytm app. Users can also share their location details with their Paytm friends and recall messages which were accidentally sent to someone else. However, the feature that truly takes advantage of the app’s various payment options is sending/receiving money from others in the chat box using UPI, wallet or credit/debit cards. To use these features, tap on the Inbox icon at the bottom of the home page and select the contact you want to chat or send money to.

YouTube has a social media page with a built-in messenger where users can chat with friends and share new and interesting videos.

YouTube

Not many know that the popular video streaming app YouTube has a social media page with a built-in messenger where they can chat with friends and share new and interesting videos. The only limitation is that you can’t share anything except YouTube videos. Users can access the messenger in Activity Page->Shared. To start a chat, users have to send a friend request first and then wait until it is accepted by the Google contact. In case users want to add more people to the chat, they can create groups too by adding more participants in an ongoing chat.

Users can follow their friends on Apple Music, see what they are listening to and also share their entire playlists with them.

Apple Music

Apple’s Music lets music buffs connect to each other without going anywhere. Users can follow their friends on Apple Music, see what they are listening to and also share their entire playlists with them. Every time a new song is added to the playlist, the friend gets a notification about it. To use this feature, users have to activate Sharing in Profile, go to Find Friends and follow those who are already sharing their playlist.

Google Photos also allows users to share photos with their Google contacts without having to navigate away from the app.

Google Photos

Google Photos also allows users to share photos with their Google contacts without having to navigate away from the app. To take advantage of this, tap on the Sharing button->Start a new share and choose the images to be shared. Users can send these to as many contacts as they want. This makes life easier for users as they don’t have to go to multiple apps to share photos of group trips, party or family event. Google Photos comes pre-loaded on all Android devices. It has a feature called Shared Libraries which uses AI (artificial intelligence) to configure images involving a particular person and will automatically add a new picture to the Shared library.
