It seems like Qualcomm is set to unveil more than one new mobile SoC in the Snapdragon 600 series at its event on Tuesday, May 9 as the company has been tipped to launch Snapdragon 630 and Snapdragon 635 alongside the Snapdragon 660.
After press invite sent out by the company, Qualcomm was expected to launch its Snapdragon 660 SoC on May 9 but as per a tweet by @mmddj_china, the company could also unveil its Snapdragon 635 and Snapdragon 630 SoC at the event. The information from @mmddj_china came in response to a tweet by well-known tipster Roland Quandt, who said, “I think you’ll like what Qualcomm wants to show you on May 8/9, if you liked what they did with the SD65x and SD625.”
While Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 SoC will be the successor to Snapdragon 652 SoC, the details about the other two SoCs are currently as thin as it gets. However, as the tip comes from a source that has provided leaks that turned out to be true in past, it is possible that Qualcomm does unveil three SoCs at its event.
As we have mentioned in our earlier reports, the Snapdragon 660 SoCs could potentially have custom Kryo cores just like on Snapdragon 820 or it can also use a combination of four Cortex-A73 CPUs clocked at 2.2GHZ and four Cortex-A53 CPUs clocked at 1.9GHz. The GPU coupled with the processor will be an Adreno 512.
The earlier leaks have indicated that the Snapdragon 660 SoC will feature support for UFS 2.1 storage and have two LPDDR4 RAM modules clocked at 1866MHz. The SoC will reportedly go into mass production in second quarter of this year and is expected to power phones from Oppo and Vivo. Apart from these companies, Nokia 7 Nokia 8, and the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 smartphones are also expected to pack Snapdragon 660 SoC.
