Leading building materials supplier, Jewson, which has over 600 branches across the UK, including a branch on Humber Avenue, has pledged its support of regional sport by sponsoring the Amateur Sportsman of the Year Award at the Coventry & Warwickshire Sports Awards 2017.

The award will be presented to the amateur sportsman who demonstrates their dedication, skill and achievement within their chosen sport.

Speaking of why Jewson chose to sponsor this particular award, the firm’s Operations Director David Kilby said: “We want to celebrate emerging talent and those sports-people who put their heart and soul into being the best they can be.

“Ambition, drive and determination are values we hold dear so are proud to champion those that display this ethos in the world of sport.”

As David points out, the firm is keen to contribute to sporting communities: “As a business, we support a lot of grassroots sports teams as we feel it is important to support the communities in which we live and work.

“We also want to give a helping hand to up-and-coming talent. We support a wide range of different sports clubs across the UK, from Aberdeen Wanderers Rugby Club, to Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey and Manningtree girls’ football team.”

He continued: “As a company, we are always looking for ways to give back to the community so being involved in these awards shows our commitment to this.”

The awards, which will be held on October 5 at the city’s Ricoh Arena, are a fantastic way to raise the profile of sport at all levels and can work to bring communities together, as David confirms: “Sport has a positive impact on the community by being a great way for people to build skills in teamwork and communication, plus it has excellent health and wellbeing benefits.
