Kanye West is “not here for controversy,” he tells Vogue magazine in a new interview. The rapper is debuting his new Yeezy Season 4 clothing line Wednesday, one day before the official start of New York City Fashion Week.
Yeezy courted controversy when he sought only multicultural models to walk the runway for his show. But he says his intention was not to exclude darker-skinned models.
“The ten thousand people that showed up didn’t have a problem with it,” said West. “How do you word the idea that you want all variations of black? How do you word that exactly?” he asks.
West also tells Vogue he is planning to work on children’s clothing line, inspired by his own children.
“We’ve had to make all these clothes from scratch for North and for Saint. And in the process it was just inevitable that we make kids’ clothes,” says Kanye.
“With me and my wife, we have a different perspective on the way that kids swag out. And it’s all just slowly coming together,” he adds.
Yeezy also confirmed that he is working on new music in the studio — with Drake.
“We’re just working on music, working on a bunch of music together, just having fun going into the studio,” he says. “We’re working on an album so there’s some exciting things coming up soon.”
