Know what the colour of your vaginal discharge says!

Health
HERE’S WHAT THE COLOR OF YOUR VAGINAL DISCHARGE SAYS ABOUT YOUR HEALTH: Vaginal discharge – that’s a thing most women are uncomfortable with. Almost all of them think that if they are feeling anything gushing out down there, it is an indication of something unhealthy. However, it is not. Vaginal discharge upto a certain amount every day (mostly agreed at one to two tablespoons) is absolutely normal. In fact, that’s how your vagina cleanses itself.

DIFFERENT COLOURS OF VAGINAL DISCHARGE: Now, what about the different colours of that discharge? Vaginal discharge stays largely undiscussed, adding to your alarm if it suddenly shows up in any unexpected colour. So here, we talk about different colors vaginal discharge can be of and what all of them spell for you, if you should relax or pay a visit to your gynaecologist.

Clear and watery

CLEAR AND WATERY: This is the most normal and common discharge. You may have noticed that it increases when you have had sex or are exercising in your daily routine. The discharge may increase when you are ovulating and may decrease just after your monthly cycle.

Milky white

MILKY WHITE: This is another common and normal discharge, however, if milky white discharge is coming along with other symptoms such as itchiness, it can mean a yeast infection. Again, the quantity of this discharge also depends on your monthly cycle and is usually more in the first half of the cycle.

Yellow or green cottage-cheesy

YELLOW OR GREEN COTTAGE-CHEESY: Now, if that same white, milky discharge gets thicker and appears like cottage cheese and turns yellowish or greenish, the probability that you have a yeast infection goes much higher. For this, you need to go for over-the-counter vaginal creams or visit your gynaecologist.

Yellow or green and frothy

YELLOW OR GREEN AND FROTHY: If this is the case, then it could mean the presence of an STD called trichomoniasis. You must get yourself screened earliest possible.

Pinkish or brownish

PINKISH OR BROWNISH: Now, this can mean two things: Either you are near your period or if not that, you may be pregnant. Pinkish discharge is nothing to be scared of. In fact, many women experience it when they are about to have their monthly period. It just means that your endometrial lining has begun shedding. However, if it is not near your cycle, it could also signal pregnancy.

Clear and stretchy

CLEAR AND STRETCHY: This discharge usually happens just before ovulation as your estrogen levels go high. It simply means that you are at your fertile best. It is the kind of discharge that is sticky and you can stretch it between your fingertips.

WHEN TO WORRY? If your discharge smells normal and isn’t cheesy, it simply means that things are all fine. However, if your discharge smells bad, particularly like a fish, it could signal the presence of Bacterial Vaginosis. It is an infection that is caused by bacterial overgrowth in your vagina. In such a case, the colour can be milky or gray or clear but the smell is peculiar. If it happens to you, you need to see your gynaecologist earliest possible.
