5 'Healthy' Eating Habits That You Are Better Off Without And What You Should Do Instead!

There’s a lot that’s been said about healthy eating and dietary changes that lead to a healthier lifestyle. But not everything that you read and watch is true. There are many contradicting studies and researches, some of which are often funded by the respective lobbies of certain products, simply in order to create a market for these foods. Not all of these products might be healthy for you. Similarly, there are some eating habits that we pick up by watching supposed health experts and celebrities who endorse these as ‘healthy’. But are they really?

We tend to follow miscellaneous dietary counsel, according to what sounds right to us, which can be harmful. More importantly, we need to delve deep into everything we read and watch and decide if a particular weight loss or health advice is actually worth following up on. Here are some ‘healthy’ eating habits that you might have internalized, but that you’re better off without:

Avoiding dairy

Switching dairy like milk and curd with almond milk has attained fad status. But it’s not healthy at all. The amount of protein in almond milk is no match to the amount present in real milk, obtained from dairy animals.

Avoiding gluten

Gluten-free diets are only necessary for those who suffer from coeliac disease, which is a congenital disease that affects a miniscule part of the western population, primarily in America. It’s true that one should keep the amount of carbohydrates in one’s diet to a minimal level. However, completely avoiding whole grain foods is a huge mistake. Not to mention that gluten-free foods are extremely expensive and an unnecessary drain on your pocket.

Do you really need to say no to gluten?

Throwing out egg yolks

Egg yolks are full of good fat and vitamins and minerals that are essential for your body. Throwing away the yolk for fear of raising levels of cholesterol in the body is not a healthy practice, as opposed to what you’ve been made to believe. Eggs do contain cholesterol but eating eggs won’t raise the bad cholesterol in your body significantly. So while controlling intake of egg yolk is great, throwing them out completely isn’t logical.

Juicing fruits and vegetables

Cold pressed juice diets became quite the rage recently. But by juicing your fruits and vegetables, you are throwing away a lot many nutrients that you will get if you eat your fresh produce raw. One of the most important nutrients that gets thrown out when you juice a vegetable is fiber that is essential for maintaining digestive health and promote satiety in the body.

Eating ‘low-fat’ foods

A lot of low-fat foods that flood the aisles of your supermarket, aren’t helping you lose weight at all. In fact, they might be making you load up on unnecessary amounts of sugar! Chucking fats from your diet isn’t all that beneficial for your overall health. What you should do instead is pick foods that have good fats in them, like dark chocolate, avocado, walnuts, almonds, etc.

It can be confusing to decide what to keep and what to show the door, when it comes to deciding on a healthy and nutritious die. However, if you bring scientific facts and logical discretion to your aid, you will be able to judge the nutritional benefits and harmful effects of a food product better.
